On April 1, 2024, an important step was taken in the transition process: As of the aforementioned date, Elijah Charles took on the role of Medical Superintendent (MS). Elijah, a Sierra Leonean, has worked as a Medical Officer at the hospital for the past two years, so he is already familiar with the organization. Together with Yankuba Sesay, Hospital Manager since the end of 2019, he now leads the hospital. His appointment means that the LHMC will be led entirely by people from Sierra Leone, which is in line with our strategy towards privatization of the hospital.
The current Medical Superintendent, Martijn Knap, has resigned from his responsibility as MS on the aforementioned date, but he will continue to work as a tropical doctor until June 1, 2024. In anticipation of his departure, we would like to thank Martijn for his enormous efforts as MS to improve the health of patients. improve and meet all organizational challenges of the LHMC.
