In Sierra Leone there is a large shortage of doctors and it is difficult to find qualified personnel who can perform common operations such as caesarean section or hernia surgery. For this reason, clinicians (CHOs) are trained who can operate independently within the CapaCare program. In recent years our hospital has contributed a lot to this training program by offering surgical internships. Once trained, these Surgical CHOs, or SACHOs, are placed by the government in various hospitals throughout the country.
Since July of this year, our hospital has its 'own' SACHO, Lamin. Handed over to us personally by the Ministry. We are very happy with this new collaboration and see this as a step in the direction of independence and sustainability. Welcome Lamin!
