Finally, the time had come for the opening of the Patient Waiting House! The construction started in early 2023, but was halted several times due to financial constraints. The communication officer of the Lion Heart Foundation in the Netherland Max Kooijmans had the honor of opening the building. The festive opening ceremony was well attended by patients, including pregnant women, staff of the hospital and community people. They expressed their happiness with this project, an important addition to our hospital.
The Patient Waiting House is a long sought after solution! Due to poor roads, long distances and financial constraints traveling to the hospital is an obstacle for many patients, especially in emergency situations. For example, pregnant women with a high risk of complications during pregnancy or childbirth can now stay in the waiting house, so that they are close to the hospital if there is an emergency. Patients who need long-term wound care and do not live nearby can also stay here.
The Patient Waiting House is built on the edges of the hospital grounds and offers 10 basic but practical rooms. Each room has a shower with running water, toilet, hand wash basin and a table like shelf. This means that 10 patients and their caretakers can stay here at the time, having some privacy while being right next door to the hospital. We want to express our gratitude to our donors who made this valuable project possible, helping save the lives of pregnant women in our catchment area!
