Just after the holiday period came another celebration that is always like Christmas at LHMC. After months of expectancy, the long awaited medication container coming all the way from the Netherlands arrived in the hospital premises on a beautiful Friday morning. The morning briefing was shortened with the arrival of the container as staff were all in a joyful mood. A big team joined to help unload the container.
Besides highly needed medication (many different types of medicine cannot be bought in Sierra Leone), we received several items and equipment. We received a new ultrasound sound scanner to finally replace one of the other ultrasound machines that was damaged beyond repair. Therefore we could move an ultrasound machine to the labour room once again. We also received wheel chairs, blood donation chairs, surgical instruments, gloves, dental equipment and more.
From the “Start Them Right” crowdfunding which was done in 2023/2024, we were able to buy several items to help us save the lives of newborns: another resuscitation table, infusion pumps, an oxygen concentrator and a foetal Doppler. And from the “Act Fast, Save Lives” crowdfunding which was done in 2024/2025, we bought monitors for monitoring critically ill patients, pulse oximeters, and more. These items all arrived in this container. From the depth of our hearts we want to thank all our donors for supporting our work and making this year’s medication shipment a success. Our special thanks goes out to De Baanderij Aid and Relief, Arie, Friends of Lion Heart, the Lion Heart Foundation, and all who contributed to the various crowdfundings.
