The first meeting of the new Supervisory Board was held this month in the hospital. As announced in the last newsletter, this six member board is installed with the aim to improve supervision locally, as part of the larger transition process. The members are: Professor Mohamed Syed Fofanah (Chairman of the board), Dr. Augustine Jimissa (Distinct Medical Officer, Tonkolili distict), John Bosco Massaquoi Esq. (Legal Officer), Bai Komp Kanaseng III (Paramount Chief of Gbonkolenkeh Chiefdom), Madam Yabom Sesay (Chairperson, Tonkolili District Council) and Mr. Lansana Senesie (Accountant).

The meeting was centered on the role and responsibility of the Supervisory Board and high-priority areas of the hospital’s daily operations. The hospital’s financial position was among key areas discussed; revenue streams, cost control measures and financial sustainability. The board stressed the need to strengthen financial reporting systems, transparency and regular monitoring to ensure efficiency in the use of financial resources.

In addition to that, board members recognised the need for a strong external relations unit at the hospital to improve relationships with government agencies, donors, partners and the wider community. Another key highlight of the meeting was an update on the operations of LHMC’s Waterfactory. Board members acknowledged the Factory as a vital revenue-generating unit that supports hospital services and discussed possible upgrades of the facility.
