One of the core facilities in the hospital regarding patient care and hygiene is running water in the hospital wards. Water is pumped up from the ground to the hospital’s water tanks, from where it’s distributed through pipes and taps. However, this system was suffering severely from leakages. Especially the water tanks, which have served the facility for several years, developed faults and could no longer adequately meet the hospital’s water requirements.

The maintenance work required to repair and strengthen the WaSH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) services are very costly, and pose a problem because of the financial difficulties the hospital is facing. Through Friends of LHMC, a network of individuals looking to support the hospital, a solution was found: the foundation Stichting Overal in Nijmegen, the Netherlands, pledged its support to our WaSH facilities!

This month, the installation of two new water storage tanks took place. Each tank has a capacity of 5,100 litres, providing a combined storage capacity of 10,200 litres to support the daily water needs of the hospital. The new tanks will help ensure a more reliable water supply for essential hospital operations, hygiene practices and patient care. Repairs to the water pipes and related fixtures will follow in the coming weeks. LHMC extends its sincere appreciation to Stichting Overal for their valuable contribution and to Friends of LHMC for their support.
