Lion Heart Medical Centre is located in Yele in the rural heart of Sierra Leone. A majority of the staff come from bigger towns in other parts of the country, for whom it is a big challenge to find good housing with basic facilities (light & running water) in Yele. The hospital tries to provide staff housing, but in the last couple of years the staff of LHMC has grown steadily – water factory staff, more medical staff, and more students! – outgrowing our current staff quarters.
We are happy to announce that financial support from international and Dutch funding partners has enabled us to expand the staff quarters with two extra apartment buildings! In the picture you can see the ongoing construction at the staff quarters next to the hospital. Each new building will have seven apartments, and each apartment will have a bedroom, toilet, living room, veranda, kitchen and store. When this project is completed, 14 more staffers will have a comfortable place to stay.
