Spread the love

We recently had the pleasure of hosting a team of the Female Cancer Foundation, a crucial partner of LHMC. The visit marked one year of the cervical cancer screening project. We are very proud to announce that we have screened more than 1.300 women in communities around the hospital, far more than the set goal for the first year!

The visitors, Geerte den Hollander (at the right) & Esther Beekman had a meeting with the team from LHMC that is leading the project. They joined them on outreach to a village nearby and were very positive about the team’s performance. Also, they brought useful screening items as a surprise: a mobile couch, timers and a speculum.

Worldwide, every 2 minutes a woman dies from Cervical Cancer. But it can be prevented and cured when found early. Therefore, we bring the screening to the women, travelling to a different village every week. This project is supported by the Sierra Leonean Ministry of Health and Sanitation and by the AFAS Foundation. The end goal is to screen more than 70% of women in Sierra Leone by 2030.
